The Encore Engagement

A little known fact about Arish is that he always said he would get engaged on 10.10.2010. When he first proclaimed this many years ago, no one imagined it would be possible because, well, there was no special someone in sight. But sure enough, against all popular belief, Arish did get engaged (for the second time, to the same lovely girl of course!) on October 10th 2010.
Since most people including close family (and yours truly) were not present during the engagement ceremony on August 22nd,  Arish and Nidhi decided to host their close friends and family at a party. Amidst loud (sometimes very loud) music, the usual excitement by all and sundry around rituals, and lots and lots of dancing, food and fun, on 10.10.2010 Arish and Nidhi got engaged the Hindu way. A "chunni" ceremony was performed where Nidhi was given a red duppatta by Arish's family. Traditionally, this signals the boy's family's intent to protect the honor of the girl as a sign of welcoming her into their fold.
On that evening, Arish and Nidhi treated their guests to a lavish dinner complete with hot kebabs and a delicious 3-tier cake.

The Grand Plan

Continuing our theme of celebrating the love birds, Arish and Nidhi, a host of events have been organized. Take a look at the schedule below and let us know if you would like to be part of the Family Talent Show to be held on December 26th. Remember that there are a limited number of spots because of the limited number of hours that this can be held over. You see, we have to abide by the law of the city and restrict loud music after 11pm. But hey, nobody said anything about not holding large gatherings/crowds :-) In which case, we are free to party on (with no loud music)!  Lets just make sure 'they' don't hear about the size of our crowd. Haha!

Arish and Nidhi formalized their first step towards becoming a couple during an impromptu engagement ceremony, attended by their immediate family members, on August 22nd. A lot of us missed out on being there. Here are some pictures to help those of that were not present experience that day vicariously....and help re-live the happiness for those that were present.
